[Nightwish Collab]

What an embarassment

Ok I'll say up front that I really dont like collaborations unless people can learn to actualy cooperate and create a film that looks consistent in style, animation, etc. But Nightwish is and has been my favorite band for many years and to besmerch and dirty this beautiful song with the completely pointless and unrelated crap is something that I find infuriating.

Dont get me wrong the animation is pretty nice in the way it looks but lipsynching 80% of the song and having special effects every moment shows that you didnt give a damn about artistic value or even understood the song other than "She must be sad!". Im might apologize for the lack of creative criticism but this seriously angers me to the point of me wanting to make my own Nightwish MV and posting it to show up a collab. You know what I thinkI'll try that, since if i dont vent it ill go crazy.

It was a good animation but not a great one as some people were making it out to be. By the way many sounded i was expecting animation that was fluent and with some amount of energy, possibly similar to that of xiao xiao. Dont get me wrong your animation was good by some aspects. For example, some virtues i noticed were the directing, some nice 3d rendering, and a couple nice "flourishes" here and there (i particularily liked the one when he was handed the first uzi), you also had nice "follow through" in your characters actions. Some negative points though that i noticed were; the lack of energy in your movements which could be fixed with "ease in" and "ease out" aka speeding up and slowing down the animation within seperate actions instead of stiffly walking as if the atmosphere were made of water, your coriography was good in many parts but it just seemed as though you got lazy like the part where hes running up the stairs and holding the blade still and the people just stand in line to be decapitated, and the way they all slowly march and even walk by him while hes owning them all. I know its a flash being submitted to newgrounds and i shouldnt be so harsh on it, but a little constructive criticism never hurt anyone.

Now I have to tell you first and formost, dont use a several minute long mp3 thats several megabytes big in a flash where you intend to play only a few seconds of animation. I mean i was already expecting it to be crappy due to the subject, but the file size made me think it was an episode long, i was surprised to find only a few seconds of trailer animation. The story seems to fit the genre of dbz perfectly though, completely unoriginal. Im sure dbz was cool years back when it was new, but now more current animations, even stuff on cartoon network (excluding dbz of course) and nickelodeon makes it look like crap. Pick a different subject and learn to edit music clips and try again later.

seems no different from dbz concept wise, and dbz died years ago and therefore dbz sucks. The animation was, well, bad but ive seen worse. The drawings were a step up from sticks but still poor so heres the damamge.

Graphics - poor drawings bad animation though consistent.(3)

Sound - Nothing more than BGM, and a little bit of sound effects. Thats usually the most we get for flashes on NG so a decent score except the sound effects were of poor quality. I didnt like the music much either. (6)

Interactivity - NG Load bar (1)

Style - Pretty much a mimic of the style of dbz with a drawn out battle of "more powerful than thou", a style that was cool back when it was original and new. So no kudos for originality. Kudos for trying. (4)

Violence - Disfigured characters giving off red lines of bodily fluid from their many invisible lacerations. (2)

Humor - Attempted some comedy i see (1)

I thought the movie just didnt go with the music at all. Compared to the song the scenes were very slow and the synch was off a little as well. Personaly i think dbz is old and a poor animation, I cant see why people like it so much.

some advice

when doing a walk cycle, keep in mind that the distance of the persons head from the ground changes. For example: legs apart, the head is low. Legs together, the head is higher. Also, when the leg is out front and coming back its straight and bends when leaving the ground and swinging forward. The arm is usualy when it is back (when slow walking) and mildly bent when its forwd. Some friendly advice from a fellow animator ^___^

I really hate it when people resubmit things, if this gets saved I suppose it was saved fairly. I personaly still think its dumb because it makes absolutely no sense.

I personaly think that dragonball z style fighting is cheesy and unrealistic, not to mention old. Even though I failed to find it in the least bit entertaining or original it was still well animated. So kudos for the animation even though the fighting was sissy.
